Dr. Meenakshi V V

Dr. Meenakshi V.V. is currently Head of department of Palliative Medicine at the Cancer Institute (WIA), Chennai, India. She completed her MBBS from Kilpauk Medical College, Chennai, followed by a Diploma and MD in Anaesthesia from Christian Medical College, Vellore, and a DNB in Anaesthesia. She holds a National Fellowship in Palliative Medicine from the Institute of Palliative Medicine, Kozhikode. Dr. Meenakshi has spent a significant part of her career as an anesthetist in Cancer Institute (WIA), Chennai. She began formal training in Palliative Care in 2016. From working part-time in Palliative Care, she changed track to Palliative Care in Oncology from 2021. Her research work includes publications on topics like perioperative management and cancer pain management. She has presented papers at national and international conferences and is actively involved in educational courses and workshops related to palliative care. Dr. Meenakshi is a life member of the Indian Association of Palliative Care, Indian Society of Anaesthesiology, and the Society of Onco-anaesthesia and Perioperative Care. Her special interests include palliative care in oncology, methadone use, and malignant bowel obstruction. She has contributed significantly to improving early referral of advanced cancer patients to palliative care in her institution and has participated in various professional development workshops and quality improvement programs, highlighting her dedication to advancing palliative care services both within the institution and contributing towards building capacity in India.
